TEMPE, Ariz. — Mary-Kate Marshall tallied a team-leading 12 kills and Lila Toner was close behind with 10 as the Oregon State volleyball team swept Arizona State Sunday at Wells Fargo Arena.
Set scores were 25-22, 25-11 and 25-18.
The Oregon State offense was sharp, to say the least, hitting .390 on the day against the Sun Devils. By comparison, the Sun Devils (7-9 overall, 0-4 Pac-12 Conference) hit only .102 against the Beavers, who recorded a match-high 28 digs and also finished with five blocks.
Marshall paced the Beavers offensively, recording her 12 kills on 29 attacks for a .310 hitting percentage. She added four digs, two blocks and a service ace in the victory.
Marshall has double figure kills in 11 of the Beavers’ (8-7, 1-3) 15 matches this season. She also now has 1,157 kills for her career, four shy of tying for 10th all-time at Oregon State.
Toner, meanwhile, hit an impressive .533. The senior finished with 10 kills — her seventh match in double figures this season — in just 15 attempts, accumulating only two errors. Toner also had six digs, a block and a service ace.
Lanesha Reagan and Daniela Vargas had eight and seven kills, respectively, with the two combining for just two errors in 23 total attacks. Reagan hit .467 while Vargas, who surpassed her previous career-best of four kills, hit .750.
Kory Cheshire added six kills and McKenna Hollingsworth tallied 34 assists.
Defensively, Kayla Ellis topped the Beavers with seven digs.
The Beavers hit just .152 in the first set, but kept the Sun Devils to a .088 clip to go up 1-0 via a 25-22.
It was all Oregon State in sets two and three.
The Beavers hit .500 in the second set, finishing with 13 kills to just one attack error. The Sun Devils, by comparison, finished with seven kills to 10 errors in the frame.
Set three was closer, but still in Oregon State’s favor due to a .600 attack percentage. The Beavers never trailed in the set — ASU, in fact, held the lead just twice on the day, both coming early in set two.
The win was the Beavers’ third in their last four matches against Arizona State, including two of three in Tempe.
Oregon State returns to Gill Coliseum for a Friday matchup with Washington State. The match can be seen at 7 p.m. PT, with tickets available at BeaverTickets.com and 1-800-GOBEAVS.
