The Mexican east-coast city of Chetumal is currently hosting a 3 star FIVB World Tour event that bears its name. In it, Mexican fans were able to see the country’s new faces of beach volleyball. Mexico fielded four teams for the event, and six of its eight athletes, all under 20 years of age, made their international debuts.

It now has been two years since Czech Republic’s Michala Kvapilova made the switch from the indoor game to the beach.
American qualifiers Caitlin Ledoux and Geena Urango are on to their first FIVB World Tour title match after picking up two more wins at the Chetumal Three Star on Saturday. The pair will face top seeded Canadians Heather Bansley/Brandie Wilkerson for gold at 5 p.m. ET. Kerri Walsh Jennings/Brooke Sweat will take on Canadians Nicole McNamara/Megan McNamara for bronze at 3 p.m. ET.
The Chetumal Three Star quarterfinals will include two teams each from Brazil, Canada and the United States as well as one each from Mexico and Russia.
Five American teams, including Pool C winners Kerri Walsh Jennings/Brooke Sweat, remain among the final 24 teams at the Chetumal Three Star in Mexico. Top seeded Canadians Heather Bansley/Brandie Wilkerson and collegiate stars Nicole and Megan McNamara also won their respective pools on Thursday.
