Senior Roni Jones-Perry was tabbed AVCA Division I Women’s Player of the Week after leading 3rd-ranked BYU to a 3-0 mark last week. She is the seventh player in Cougar women’s volleyball history to be recognized as player of the week and the first since 2015.

In a stacked qualifying pool, only four teams per gender advanced through Thursday’s matches into the main draw. Seeds 2, 3, 5 and 9 made it through on the women’s side, while No. 1 qualifier Melissa Humana-Paredes/Sarah Pavan were knocked out. On the men’s side, seeds 1, 2, 4 and 6 advanced, including top seed Ty Loomis/Piotr Marciniak.
Head Coach Marcio Sicoli added a familiar face to the coaching staff for the 2018-19 campaign, hiring former volunteer assistant Jon Dazé as Assistant Coach. Dazé was a member of the coaching staff that led the Pepperdine beach volleyball program to its second AVCA National Championship crown in 2014.
The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Marcio Sicoli as the AVCA National Assistant Coach of the Year on Monday.
VolleyMob first, second and third team All-America honors recognize the top three teams from courts 1 through 5. UCLA’s Megan McNamara/Nicole McNamara (Court 1), Lily Justine/Sarah Sponcil (Court 2), Izzy Carey/Megan Muret (Court 5), Hawaii’s Carly Kan/Laurel Weaver (Court 3) and Pepperdine’s Skylar Caputo/Alexis Filippone (Court 4) make up the first team.
UCLA’s top pair of Nicole McNamara/Megan McNamara earned their third straight Beach All-America honors, while Hawaii’s Emily Maglio garnered her second selection among 22 AVCA honors announced Thursday.
