Towson junior right side Jocelyn Kuilan not only hit the 1,000 kill milestone last match, but also did so faster than any player in program history. With 13 kills on Sunday against Northeastern, Kuilan now has 1,002 for her career.
Kuilan began her career with the Tigers in 2015 and burst onto the scene with 426 kills (3.41 per set). The native of Toa Baja, Puerto Rico was the CAA Rookie of the Year that season after being the first freshman in school history to log over 400 kills. She had continued success last year as a sophomore with 372 kills (3.07 per set) en route to First-Team All-CAA honors.
So far in 2017, Kuilan is Towson’s team-leader in kills (204) and tied for the top in kills per set (3.19). She’s doing it at an efficient clip of .282 as well. Not only did she clear the 1,000 kill mark in her last match to become the fastest to do so, but she also sits in 14th for career kills with the Tigers. The career record is held by April Hoffman (2002-2005) with 1,588, a number that Kuilan is on pace to come right around.
It won’t be the only record to watch Kuilan for either, as she netted her 100th career ace last match as well. That puts her 15th in program history. It will be hard to touch the top number of 263, but she will just need 24 more to pass her way into the top 10 at Towson.
Beyond her individual milestones, Kuilan was a key component in Towson starting the season 16-0. They did fall in their last two matches, but they still sit at 16-2 overall. The Tigers can bounce back this week as they take on College of Charleston and UNC Wilmington for the week, both on the road.
