Class of 2019 defensive specialist/libero Meredith Eckard has verbally committed to the Georgia Southern University women’s volleyball program. Eckard will be a senior in high school this fall.
A 5’4″ back-row defender and setter for her school, Eckard’s most recent season at Duluth High School in Georgia came in 2017 as a junior. Her MaxPreps profile has not been updated to show the season’s stats, but in her freshman and sophomore seasons combined on the varsity team, she logged 1,119 assists (6.3 per set), 211 digs (1.2 per set) – including 2.4 per set as a sophomore – 93 aces (0.5 per set) and 34 kills (0.2 per set).
Eckard also plays with A5 Volleyball Club and the 17-2 Marc 2018 squad. She owns a 83″ standing reach, a 105″ approach touch and a 22″ vertical. Additionally, she was on the 2017 AVCA Phenom list.
Video highlights of Eckard’s play can be seen here with her Hudl profile.
Georgia Southern finished 2017 at 8-21 overall and 3-13 as a member of the Sun Belt. They have six players who can play defensive specialist on their current 2018 roster, with three set to graduate, leaving spots open for Eckard to fill in once she joins the program for the fall of 2019.
