Kent State has a new career digs leader as senior Challen Geraghty surpassed the total on Saturday. Her 29 digs in a five-set loss to Miami (OH) pushed her to 2,172 for her career, more than previous school-leader Laura Jensen (2004-2007).

A 5’5″ libero for the Golden Flashes, Geraghty came to Kent State in 2014 as a native of Louisville, Kentucky. She immediately posted hefty numbers in the back row defensively at 4.48 digs per set, including a match with 39 on the season. Year two was even better in 2015 as she took home the MAC Defensive Player of the Year award behind a career-best 5.74 digs per set. At that point, she had become the fastest in program history to 1,000 digs, hinting that this eventual achievement was possible. Then, last year as a junior she posted another large dig total of 5.53 per set as a All-MAC First-Team honoree.
So far this season Geraghty is averaging 5.60 digs per set and has also risen her career ace total to 90 as she shoots for 100 for her four years. Her 2,000th career dig came on September 8 against Butler with her school-record breaking dig coming on Saturday. With 12 more matches too before the MAC Tournament, Geraghty should add plenty to her school record and make it nearly untouchable.
Beyond that, Geraghty now sits in ninth place all-time in MAC history for career digs. The top two marks will be difficult to attain (2,583 and 2,544), but third place (2,287) could very much be in play.
Kent State will continue their season as they look for their first MAC win and Geraghty goes for more digs on Thursday against Ohio. Following that they will head to the road to face Central Michigan on Saturday.
