After bringing in a strong class in 2018, Samford will add to it as they’ve already garnered a commitment for the 2019 class in high school recruit Alex Pressnell. A 5’4″ defensive specialist and libero, Pressnell will join Samford for her first season in the fall of 2019.
A junior at Buckhorn High School in New Market, Alabama, Pressnell helped push the Bucks to a 33-16 season. Individually she posted 572 digs (4.6 per set), 63 assists (0.5 per set) and 42 aces (0.3 per set). She was then named to the All-Region and All-Area team in 2017.
Besides her high school career, Pressnell plays with Rocket City Volleyball Club (RCVC). In 2017 she played with NASA 161 who went 34-10 and she added 525 more digs (5.1 per set), 35 aces, a 94% serve and a 93% serve receive. This year she transitions to the RCVC 18-1 team. Video of her play can be seen below:
Samford is coming off of a season in which they went 13-18 overall and 8-8 playing in the Southern Conference (SoCon). That came a year after they made the NCAA Tournament following winning the league’s tournament. The Bulldogs had four defensive specialists/liberos on their 2017 roster, with one graduating and another set to exhaust her eligibility following 2018 prior to Pressnell’s arrival.
