The University of Utah women’s volleyball indoor program has earned the commitment from class of 2020 recruit Sommer Daniel. A 5’9″ setter and outside hitter, Daniel will join the program for her freshman season in the fall of 2020.
Daniel is currently a sophomore at Tipton High School in Tipton, Iowa. During the 2017 season, she pushed her team to a school-record 32 victories and their first-ever state tournament berth.
Individually, Daniel recorded 4.2 assists per set, 4.0 kills per set, 2.5 digs per set and a team-best 58 aces in her sophomore season. For her performance she was named to the All-Eastern Iowa volleyball First-Team. Video of some of her play from last year with the school can be seen below via YouTube:
On the club circuit, Daniel plays with the Iowa Rockets. According to her club’s recruiting profile, she owns a 30.5″ vertical with a 9’4.5″ block touch and a 9’9.5″ approach jump. Her long list of accolades can also be seen on her club profile.
Utah is coming off of a 24-10 season in which they went 13-7 in the Pac-12. They also advanced to the Sweet 16 following two victories in the NCAA Tournament. Their 2018 roster currently features four outside hitters and a pair of setters, with one of each set to graduate prior to Daniel’s arrival in 2020.
