Class of 2021 outside hitter Avery Fitzgerald has committed to the Mississippi State University women’s volleyball program.
Fitzgerald stands at 6’0″ and will be a sophomore for the 2018-2019 school year at Fort Smith Southside High School in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Last season the school went 23-11 overall and 10-4 en route to a State Quarterfinals appearance. Listed on the varsity roster for 2018, Avery will look to follow the footsteps of her older sisters, Emma and Chloe (headed to West Texas A&M for volleyball), in the path to success at the high school.
On the club end, Fitzgerald plays with Fort Smith Juniors. Highlights of her play at the 2018 Nationals in Detroit via YouTube can be seen below:
Mississippi State has a new head coach doing the recruiting now for the program in Julie Darty, who was formerly at Jacksonville from 2014-2017. The commitment gives Darty a strong start on the Bulldogs’ future recruiting class for 2021.
The Bulldogs finished the 2017 season at 10-23 and 1-17 as a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Their 2018 campaign begins on August 24 as they face a four-match weekend with opponents Mississippi Valley State, UL Monroe, Georgia State and Cal Baptist all coming to Starkville.
