Emily DeWalt of Texas State Selected AVCA Player of the Week

Texas State freshman Emily DeWalt was selected AVCA Player of the Week on Tuesday. She is the first player in Bobcat volleyball history to receive the AVCA honor.

The 5-10 setter guided Texas State to a 2-0 week with wins over Little Rock in 4 sets and Arkansas State in 3 sets. DeWalt notched double-doubles in both matches, averaging 14.00 assists per set and 3.43 digs per set to lead the Bobcats.

The Helotes, Texas, native tallied 55 assists, 14 digs, 5 kills and 3 service aces against Little Rock to begin the week. She followed it up with 43-assist, 10-dig performance against Arkansas State. DeWalt’s 55 assists against the Trojans and 43 assists against the Red Wolves are the highest totals recorded this season by a Sun Belt player in 4-set and 3-set matches, respectively.

DeWalt, the only player to start all 18 matches for Texas State this year, leads the team in assists (667, 10.59 per set) and service aces (16, 0.25 per set). She is second in digs with 186 (2.95 per set).

Texas State stands at 13-5 on the season and is off to a 4-0 start in Sun Belt play. The Bobcats, who were selected to win the conference’s West Division in the preseason, are on an 8-match win streak.
