As part of the weekly Colonial Athletic Association awards, four players earned recognition for defensive, offensive, setter and rookie of the week.
Gabrielle Eyl, a junior libero at Northeastern, spearheads the honorees as the latest CAA Defensive Player of the Week. In helping her team go 3-1 over four matches, Eyl posted 6.30 digs per set in patrolling the back row. That includes a career-high 35 dig performance in a five-set win over ACC foe Boston College.
Winning the CAA Offensive Player of the Week award was Delaware sophomore outside hitter Maria Bellinger, who averaged 4.47 kills and 3.31 digs per set this past week. Bellinger was a big part in a winning week (2-1) for Delaware as she became the first player in school history since 2006 to net 25 kills in two straight matches.
The CAA Setter of the Week went to Hofstra’s Luisa Sydlik, who continued the theme of a winning team record at 3-1. Over the four matches, Sydlik dished out 157 assists, which put her over the 1,000 mark for her career as just a sophomore. Her assist total was also good for 12.08 assists per set en route to Hofstra/Asics Invitational MVP.
Rounding out the quartet is freshman Brynn Montgomery of UNC-Wilmington, who took home the CAA Rookie Player of the Week. UNC Wilmington used Montgomery in a versatile role as she notched 52 assists, 25 digs, 22 kills and seven blocks in a 3-0 week.
