Italian Volleyball Federation President Carlo Magri said last week that the nation would be looking for a new national team volleyball coach, deciding to move on from previous head coach Marco Bonitta.
World Of Volleyball reports that Magri thanked Bonitta for his work, but said the results of the Rio Olympics required a change in national team coaching staff. The full quote:
„We did not ban anyone to take the role of the next coach of the women’s national team, but we have to choose for the good of the team and not to follow sympathies. I thank Bonitta for taking us to the Olympics but something should have be done better in terms of the results. The next coach will not have an easy task: it must manage the change of generation. The dual role (coach in a club and national team) is not in my philosophy, but there may be some special cases,“ said Magri not giving any clues on who will replace Marco Bonitta.
Earlier in the week, China’s GB Times reported that Chinese National Team Head Coach Lang Ping had been offered the Italian post. Lang is coming off of a gold-medal run with China at the Rio Olympics, and also coached the U.S. National Team to silver in Beijing.
That report came on October 13, two days after World of Volleyball reported Italy would be moving on from Bonitta.
