coAfter utilizing a 6-2 with a combination of Brynna DeLuzio and Jenna Ewert, the Buffaloes made a change over the weekend to a 5-1 with Ewert in command. Colorado was unresponsive to if the move was made over injury or just based on a coach’s decision.
In what would be a four-set victory over (RV) Arizona State, Ewert wound up with 34 assists, 12 digs, 6 kills (.455) and 4 blocks. DeLuzio did not play.
So far this season, DeLuzio leads the team with 450 (6.00 per set) assists while Ewert comes in at second with 387 (4.90 per set). In the 6-2 against Arizona State, their previous match before meeting Arizona, DeLuzio posted 15 assists and 8 digs while Ewert had 13 assists and 6 digs. Both played in all three sets of a sweep loss.
DeLuzio, a 5’9″ setter/libero from Windermere, Florida, was AVCA All-America Honorable Mention in 2017 as just a freshman. She led the team with 1,411 assists and 29 aces. She’s tacked on 145 digs (1.93 per set) and 13 aces (0.17 per set) so far this season as part of the 6-2 when she’s appeared.
Ewert on the other hand is a 5’10” freshman who has more front row skills such as slightly better blocking and getting the occasional kill. Beyond her assist numbers, she has tacked on 140 digs (1.77 per set), 14 kills (0.18 per set) and 11 aces (0.14 per set).
Colorado is 12-9 so far this season and 4-6 as a member of the Pac-12. They are also ‘on the cusp’ in the latest VolleyMob Top 25 Power Rankings. Their season resumes on Friday against #17 Washington State before hosting #20 Washington on Sunday.
