The Brooklyn Park, Minn., native was instrumental in leading the Badgers to their win over the Longhorns. Hilley distributed 50 assists, logged 8 digs and registered 2 blocks and was highly touted by her head coach following the performance.
“I thought we did a great job of siding out for most of the match, and I felt Syd was fantastic tonight,” Wisconsin head coach Kelly Sheffield said. “I felt like she kept everybody engaged, I thought she attacked what were opportunities for us to score, and I felt like our attackers were hitting what they were given and not forcing anything.”
Hilley was elated following the upset, which a sellout crowd of 7,052 fans witnessed inside UW Field House. Badger fans packed the house again on Sunday evening with another sell-out crowd against NCAA tournament invitee High Point.
“If I had to describe it in one word it would fun,” Hilley said after the match. “I mean that energy that the upper deck brought is so much louder than it normally is… it was just amazing. I was so confident the whole time… even when we were down a little bit, I am really proud of the way we played.”
