Class of 2019 recruit Kate Shannon will be sticking around in her home state as she plans to continue her volleyball career at Iowa State in a few years. A current junior in high school, Shannon attends Columbus High School and plays for Six Pack Volleyball on the club side.

Shannon will join an Iowa State bunch that has made its mark at the libero position over the years. In fact, until last season when Cassie Wait of Kansas took home the award, Iowa State had won eight consecutive Big 12 Libero of the Year honors.
A 5’6″ libero, Shannon is currently in the midst of a 10-4 season per Max Preps. Every season with the Sailors she has been the team leader in digs and aces as she also helped lead the team reach the state tournament and the state championship in her first two seasons respectively.
Most recently with the Six Pack Volleyball Club, Shannon was with the 16U team. Some of her highlights can be seen via her recruiting page.
The 2017 Iowa State roster holds three defensive specialists/liberos at the moment. Two of those are sophomores, led by star libero Hali Hillegas, while the other is a freshman. That means by the time Shannon is set to arrive in Ames, all three will be upperclasswomen with two on their final stand as Shannon will look to battle for the position likely in 2020.
One thing is apparent though. As Iowa State tries to continue their strong defensive tradition at the libero spot, Shannon has high praises already from the current head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch.
Another great defensive player joins our program! Yes!
