  0 Jil Price Igara | September 12th, 2018 | ACC, Big Ten, College - Women's Indoor, Division I Mid-Major, News, Pac 12, SEC

After cutting their teeth in year one, the nation’s second year head coaches are busy building the culture and bolstering rosters in year two at the helm.

These second-year head coaches are headlined by Illinois’ Chris Tamas Louisville’s Dani Busboom Kelly, Oregon’s Matt Ulmer and Stanford’s Kevin Hambly. All of whom have stepped into strong programs and continued their stead at the top nationally.

Tamas’ Fighting Illini, fresh off of a NCAA Sweet 16 appearance last year, are 1 of 9 remaining undefeated programs nationally with an 8-0 start, despite playing three Top 25 teams. Busboom Kelly guided the Cardinals to an ACC Championship in her first season after being chosen to finish 8th in the preseason. Her squad is 6-3 so far in 2018.

Ulmer’s Ducks have put together a 5-3 mark so far including four matches against Top 10 teams, a season after their NCAA second round appearance. Hambly took the reins for the Cardinal following a 2016 NCAA Championship and led them back to the NCAA Final Four and to a Pac-12 Championship in his first season. This year, Stanford is off to a 7-1 start.
