Penn State tacked onto its recruiting class with the addition of Allyson Cathey, a Class of 2018 outside hitter/middle blocker. A senior in high school, Cathey will join the Penn State volleyball team as a freshman with the fall of 2018 season for year one.

A 6’1″ native of New Albany, Indiana, Cathey attended New Albany High School. Playing as a middle blocker, she was the school’s all-time leader in career kills. That was capped off by a senior season in which she logged 520 kills, 300 digs, 94 blocks and 31 aces.

On the club side, Cathey plays with KIVA 17 Red as an outside hitter – which will likely be her role at Penn State. She comes to the Nittany Lions after decommitting from Western Kentucky in the fall.

Penn State is coming off of a 33-2 season in 2017 in which they made the Final Four and fell just short of an eighth National Championship. They had five outside hitters on their 2017 roster, but two graduate and another transfers, leaving roles open at the position.
