Two-Time All-ACC OH Stephanie Williams Sidelined in Pitt’s Win vs Pepperdine

Two-time AVCA All-America Honorable Mention pick Stephanie Williams was sidelined in #17 Pittsburgh’s latest victory over Pepperdine – their third match of the season.

A 6’0″ redshirt junior, Williams appeared in the first two matches of the season against Butler (a 3-0 win) and #25 Cal Poly (a 3-1 victory). However, in the opener she rolled her ankle at one point and missed one set of play.

It seems as if she battled through the Cal Poly match being that it was a top 25 showdown while the missed match against Pepperdine came a day after – so things could have swelled up. Of course, that’s all assumption at this point.

In her first two matches, Williams logged per set numbers of 1.67 kills on a .152 mark, 1.33 digs and 0.83 blocks. That included 7 kills and 7 digs against Cal Poly. Taking Williams’ place in the Pepperdine match was 6’2″ freshman Sabrina Starks, who played just one set in the first two matches combined but logged 4 kills (.500) and 6 blocks against the Waves. The whole recap of the final day of the tournament can be seen here.

A native of Eastlake, Ohio, Williams was also a two-time All-ACC selection as a freshman and sophomore. For her time with the Panthers she has recorded 832 kills (3.33 per set) on a .251 hitting percentage, 589 digs (2.36 per set), 114 blocks (0.46 per set) and 59 aces (0.24 per set).

Pittsburgh is currently 3-0 and ranked 17th in the preseason VolleyMob Top 25 with the newest edition coming tomorrow. Their schedule next week features the Seton Hall Classic as they face Oklahoma, Seton Hall and VCU.
