Imoco Volley Conegliano furthered their lead in the Italian women’s Samsung Gear A1 League with a 3-1 (26-24, 17-25, 25-19, 25-21) victory at home over second place in the league and reigning European champions Pomi Casalmaggiore.
Conegliano was led by Robin de Kruijf of the Netherlands who scored 18 points in the match, while Samantha Fabris led for Pomi with 21 points. In the match, Conegliano outblocked Pomi 15-10.
There are six rounds left to play in the regular season, with Conegliano leading the race at four points ahead of Pomi.
In Japan
Sarina Koga led reigning Asian Champions NEC Red Rockets of Kawasaki with 16 points (five of which were blocks). NEC Red Rockets swept Hitachi Rivale 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-19) as the Japan V.Premier League Playoffs opened this past weekend.
The United State’s Curtsy Jackson was the top scorer for Hitachi Rivale with 14 points.
The Club World hosts of Hisamitsu Springs of Kobe opened their playoff campaign with a win over Toyota Auto Body Queenseis 3-2 (21-25, 22-25, 25-19, 27-25, 18-16). Hisamitsu fought back from an 0-2 deficit to take down Queenseis in five, led by Miyu Nagaoka with 26 points – while Queenseis’ Polina Rahomova scored an incredible 41 points.
In Turkey
The top teams in the league had no problems this past weekend rolling through their matches. VakifBank Istanbul shut down Sariyer Belediyesi in a 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-17) win, being able to rest most of their key players. This allowed for Gozde Kirdar to led the scoring with 12 points and Melis Durul with 11.
The Reigning world champions Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul, who currently trail VakifBank in the Turkish League, took four sets to take down Canakkale Belediyesi 3-1 (30-28, 25-23, 15-25, 25-14) – again keeping key starters on the bench to rest. Hande Baladin was the top scorer with 13 points while Busra Kilicli added another 12.
