On the final stop of the CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour, Russian’s Yury Bogatov and Ruslan Daianov took their second gold medal on the tour.
The two jumped out to a quick 2-0, (11-8, 11-2) victory over the “King of Snow” Michal Matyja and partner Karol Szczepanik the second seeded pair in the main draw. With the win, the fourth-ranked Bogatov and Daianov had to face the unbeaten third-seeded Slovenian team of Tadej Bozenk and Danijel Pokersnik in the finals
Bozenk/Pokersnik cruised to a 2-0, (11-9, 11-7) semifinal match over Benedikt Doranth and Julius Hoefer.
In the finals match, the first set went far beyond the 11 points necessary to win a set at 15-13 in favor of the Russian duo, as did the second set 11-6. The third set went to the Slovenian pair 11-13, while the two teams battled it out in the fourth set going 13 points beyond the 11 points, with the Russians coming out on top at 24-22. The last set tied the European Tour record set just a week ago at the Malbun stop with 46 rallies.
In the bronze medal match, the “King of the Snow” and Szczepanik were not able to come through to medal at the tournament, falling to Doranth and Hoefer 2-1, (11-9, 9-11, 11-6).
