THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas –- Baylor volleyball (18-6, 6-2 Big 12) grinded out a 3-1 win over Oklahoma, 22-25, 25-11, 28-26, 27-25, Saturday afternoon at the Ferrell Center.
The victory snapped an eight-match losing streak to the Sooners (12-9, 3-5 Big 12), including the squad’s first home win against OU since Sept. 28, 2008.
The win gives BU a 6-2 conference record at the halfway mark of Big 12 play, exceeding last season’s conference win total (5).
Redshirt junior Katie Staiger led the Bears with her 12th season double-double, adding 19 kills and 14 digs in the win. Aniah Philoand Ashley Fritcher added 15 and 13 kills, respectively. Both totals were season and career highs for the sophomores.
The Bears led early in set one, but a late run by the Sooners forced BU to take a timeout. Baylor saved two set points before dropping the opening frame, 25-22.
Baylor jumped out to a 5-1 lead early in set two and never looked back. The Bears rolled with 15 kills and only one attack error, led by junior Camryn Freiberg with 5 kills in set two. BU took the set, 25-11, after holding OU to a .029 attack average.
Baylor and OU fought back and forth in the fourth set with neither team leading by more than a point early. BU was forced to call a timeout after a 20-17 Oklahoma lead. Baylor converted its third set point for the 28-26 win.
Much like the third set, set four went to extra points. Baylor saved a set point with a block from Fritcher and freshman Nicole Thomas, and senior Morgan Reed added the final kill for the 27-25 set win.

WACO, Texas – The University of Oklahoma volleyball team lost at Baylor for the first time since 2008 with a 3-1 decision at the Ferrell Center on Saturday afternoon. The loss dropped the Sooners to 12-9 overall, 3-5 in the Big 12 and snapped an eight-match win streak over the Bears, who improved to 18-6 and 6-2.
Oklahoma won set one by a score of 25-22. Baylor was all over OU in the second to even the match on a 25-11 win. Oklahoma’s 11 points was the least in a set that was not the fifth since scoring just 10 points against No. 8 Texas in 2012. The Sooners then held late leads in both the third and fourth sets before the Bears claimed victory by scores of 28-26 and 27-25.
Baylor’s Katie Staiger led all players with 19 kills as she was one of four Bears in double figures. Camryn Freiberg added 14 on a match-leading .480 attack rate to go with five blocks.
Sophomore outside hitter Alyssa Enneking (League City, Texas) tallied a team-high 13 kills for Oklahoma, but hit just .057 and fell one dig shy of a double-double. Senior middle blocker Micaela Spann (Carrollton, Texas) netted 11 kills and hit .375. Senior outside hitter Kimmy Gardiner (Grapevine, Texas) returned from a broken pinky injury on her right hand. She came off the bench and began to get swings late in the match as she totaled eight kills, hit .389 and picked up a team-leading 17 digs.
Bears setter Morgan Reed dished out 55 assists and added nine digs. Libero Jana Brusek led all players with 22 digs. For the Sooners, sophomore outside hitter Audrey Alford (Norman, Okla.) managed 47 assists and 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. Redshirt-sophomore libero Rachel Manriquez (Edmond, Okla.) was second on the team with 16 digs and junior defensive specialist Emma Kelly (Houston, Texas)reached double digits at 11.
Oklahoma returns to action on Wednesday, October 26 at Texas in a 7 p.m. match-up.
