With the U18 Girls’ World Championships set to begin in just two days, Brazil has released their 20 person roster for the event. The Brazilians earned their spot in the World Championships after winning the 2016 South American Girl’s U18 Championship over Peru. The Brazilians will not have to travel far for the World Championships, as fellow South American squad, Argentina will play host to the event in both Rosario and Santa Fe over the course of the competition.
This will be the first World Championships for all members of the Brazilian squad, with just two players having any prior top-level competition experience under their belts.
Abel Brusque, a strong club in Brazil, has four girls competing at the World Championships – Julia Isabelle Bergmann, Gabriela Waldrigues, Lanna Gabriella Gomes Machado and Sabrina Leandro Groth. Fluminense has three players participating as well – Isadora Rodrigues Tercariol, Mayara Barcelos Da Silva and Maria Clara Richa Villarinho Cavalcante.
The average age of the players on Brazil’s team is 16 years old, with Paula Menegotto Panno being the oldest at 17 and Victoria Justi being the youngest at 15. On the front line, Jessica Lima Victor Dos Santos Silva comes in as the tallest player on the team at 200 cm but does not have the highest reach on attacks or blocks. Tainara Lemes Santos reaches 306 cm on her attack while Larissa Besen blocks at a peak of 298 cm.
From the back court, the team will only carry two liberos – Cavalcante and Paula Menegotto Panno.
