The women’s Polish Cup has concluded with Grot Budowlani Lodz taking home the top prize with a three-set sweep over LKS Lodz in the finals.
The Cup consisted of 18 teams in the Polish League with 10 teams getting a bye in the first round while LKS Lodz and Chemik Police didn’t see any court time in the competition until the quarterfinals.
Budowlani Lodz first took down Muszyna in a gritty five-set match in the second round of the competition. They then flew past Bielsko-Biala in a straight-set victory in the quarterfinals followed by a four-set win against Radom in the semifinals. LKS Lodz fought through Rzeszow and Pila in four-set matches to advance to the finals.
In the finals, Budowlani Lodz took down LKS Lodz 3-0, (25-20, 25-17, 25-20) to claim the Polish Cup title. Kaja Grobelna led the winning side with 20 points which included 17 kills, two aces and 1 block while Gabriela Polanska posted 11 points in the win.
In the regular season of the league, Chemik Police lead the league with a 20-1 record while LKS Lodz sits in second place with a 19-2 record. Budowlani Lodz sits back in the standings at 4th place with a 13-7 mark on the year.
