Cignal struggled last season, finishing dead last in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix last year, the team decided to make some changes. The changes included bringing in three of the countries best players – Rachel Anne Dacquis, Jovelyn Gonzaga and Honey Royse Tubino.

By bringing in the players, the team is looking for a boost at the PSL Invitational Conference that is set to take place in March.

Cignal team manager Edgar Barroga said the joining of the three players is surely going to help propel the team into a championship contender. Barroga is set to bring in May Macatuno as a new setter to replace Shawna-Lei Santos, Venus Bernal, Arlene Bernardo and veteran Micmic Laborte, who was elevated into the staff of two-time champion coach George Pascua.

The three players helped carrying RC Cola-Army to the title of the PSL Invitational last season. The Lady Troopers were sent off to a mandatory eight-month military training that put Gonzaga and Tubino at the crossroads, while Daquis was not required to go due to a food injury.

Though the two are willing to serve their military obligations, all three of the players are wanting to try their luck with the national team that is being assembled by Francis Vicente for the AVC Asian Seniors Women’s Championship and the 29th Southeast Asian Games this August. A report tells us that Gonzaga and Tubino are now in the process of being discharged from the Philippine Army.

The club is hoping with the addition of the three stars, plus Macatuno would help to turn the team from a bottom ranked squad to a powerhouse, giving top-ranked teams Petron and F2 Logistics a run for their money.
