New Brazilian head coach Renan Dal Zotto is looking to the powers of the past for extra guidance at The 2017 Champions Cup. The new Brazilian skipper has invited former Brazilian head coach Bernardo ‘Bernardinho’ Rezende to join the team’s staff.
Dal Zotto, named Brazil’s head coach back in January, is tasked with keeping the nation on top of the world volleyball rankings. Brazil has been a power in the sport recently, with Rezende leading the Brazilian men since 2001. The 56-year-old Dal Zotto takes over this year. Like Rezende, he was a star volleyball player for Brazil before jumping into the coaching realm.
Brazil’s UOL news service reports that Dal Zotto has asked Rezende to join the Brazilian staff for the Champions Cup, which takes place in September.
“It’s a pleasure for me to have him there,” Dal Zotto said in a rough translation of the original Portuguese. “I invited him, it’s very important for us. I want more is to have Bernardinho around forever. An inspirational guy who can add a lot.”
First, Dal Zotto will get his World League debut with Brazil’s opening match against Poland next month. The South American League is also on the horizon for Brazil, which is defending its Olympic gold medal from last summer.
