Imoco Runs Through Novara In 4th Round Of Champions League

2018 CEV CHAMPIONS LEAGUE – WOMEN

In an all-Italian showcase, Imoco Volley Conegliano was able to take down Igo Gorgonzola Novara in four sets in the fourth round of the Champions League. The match has been determined the “Match of the Week” in the CEV as the top-two teams in the Italian women’s league.

Imoco dominated in the first set as Novara struggled and they did the same in the second set. Novara woke up in the third to avoid the sweep but could not keep the momentum going and fell sharply in the fourth set. Imoco outplayed Novara in nearly all statistical categories – kills (57-38), blocks (8-4) and aces (8-3).

Leading Imoco was Samanta Fabris with 18 points in the win while Robin de Kruijf and Kim Hill added another 16 and 14 points.

For the losing side, Paola Ogechi Egonu led the team with 11 points while Celeste Plak and Cristina Chirchella recorded nine points.

Up Next

In the second leg of the fourth round, Imoco will face off against Agel Prostejov while Novara squares off against Fenerbahce SK Istanbul. The top team from each pool will advance to the Playoffs Phase while the top-two second place teams will also earn a slot in the final stage.
