A strong performance by Isabell Haak, was not enough to propel her French club team, Beziers, to a victory in the finals of the French Cup, dropping a five setter to Pays d’Aix Venelles.

Haak, who is 17-years-old and made her debut with Sweden’s National Team at the age of 14 put down an astonishing 46 points in the five set finals match. She amassed three aces, two blocks and 41 kills on 93 swings for a 44 percent hitting average.

“We started well in the first set but then it became difficult. Against a team like Aix Venelles, you have to stick to the tactics every time you go on the attack. And even if I jumped a hundred times a game, I have to stay strong both mentally and physically,” said Haak.

Haak is the current top scorer of the French League with 466 points, including 385 kills, 45 blocks and 36 aces, in 19 matches. Her points total is nearly a hundred points higher than the second best in the league. Haak also ranks among the best servers and ranks sixth in blocks.

At the European CEV cup, Haak remains as the top scorer, averaging 6.4 points per set, despite Beziers being knocked out in the Round of 16.

This is Haaks first season with Beziers, after winning two championships with Engelholms in Sweden. She earned the MVP of the Swedish championship in 2016, after picking up the Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards in 2015.
