Class of 2019 defensive specialist/libero Julie Piedra has verbally committed to the Bethune-Cookman University women’s volleyball program.
A 5’5″ back-row defender, Piedra will be a senior this upcoming fall at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. In her most recent season as a junior, she helped the team to a 14-5 record that included an appearance in the Class 9A/Region 3 Semifinals.
On the club circuit, Piedra plays with Tribe Volleyball Club – specifically the 17 Elite Dave team. Video highlights of her play can be seen below via YouTube while her profile on SportsRecruits can be seen here.
Bethune-Cookman collected a 12-14 finish in 2017 that included a 9-1 mark in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), good for a first-place tie in the division, before they were upended in the conference tournament.
Their 2018 roster features no returning defensive specialist/liberos, so Piedra will join whatever the team adds this offseason and next at the position.
Iโm so blessed and excited to announce that I have verbally committed to play Division 1 Volleyball at Bethune-Cookman University! Thank you to all of my friends, family, and coaches for the endless support! Go Wildcats๐ฏ๐ #preytogether @CoachB_BCU @CoachAlvaro pic.twitter.com/rZeTGbJPv9
