The University of Kentucky has announced their 2017 Athletics Hall of Fame Class with Sarah Rumley to be inducted during Hall of Fame Weekend, September 22-23.
Rumley played for Kentucky from 2006-09 as a setter and is the only player in program history to be named the SEC Freshman of the Year (2006) and the SEC Player of the Year (2008). Rumley is a two-time AVCA All-American, four-time All-SEC and Academic All-American third team.
In all four years with the Wildcats, Rumley helped lead the team to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 run in 2009. In 2009, Rumley led the team to a #7 ranking in the NCAA.
In her career, Rumley finished with the Kentucky records in career assists (5,703) and aces (165). Her 5,703 assists landed her at fifth all-time in SEC history. Rumley finished her career ranked in the top 10 in sets played (3rd), block assists (9th), digs and attack percentage (10th). In addition, Rumley is the only player in program history to record a triple-double in a match – 10 kills, 56 assists and 18 digs.
Rumley played one season professionally with France’s Nantes Volley Feminin in the Serie A1 league before heading back to the United States to coach at the collegiate level.
