It has taken some time to do, but Ukraine’s Khimik Yunzhny has now won their 60th match in a row during the 10th round of the Super League. The only other team that has come even remotely close was Ginestra with a 41 match win streak.

Khimik’s victory came over Volyn-University-Olyussh 3-0, (25-22, 25-18, 25-21). The win came after a struggled first set, with Khimik coming back to win the first 25-22 and pushing that momentum forward throughout the remainder of the match. Until the third set when they nearly blew the sweep, holding a 20-14 lead over Volyn. Volyn pushed back to make it an interesting set, but in the end, could not complete the comeback, falling 25-21.

Leading the offense was Julia Boyko with 19 points. Khimik put down 52 kills in the match to Volyn’s 36 while laying low on blocks 3-6.

This was Khimik’s first home match since December 12 and they will have another 10 games on the road following their 60th win.

Now, Khimik’s have posted a 20-0 record in the Ukrainian Super League this season, with 18 sweeps and two five-set matches. They sit seven matches ahead of Volyn who sits in second place with a 13-5 record on the year.
