University of North Carolina opposite hitter Taylor Leath and Georgia Tech middle blocker Kodie Comby earned this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball honors.
Leath was named Player of the Week, the third Tar Heel this season to be named so, and Comby was named Freshman of the Week.
Leath, a redshirt sophomore, began her weekend campaign helping North Carolina to a program-best win over No. 2 Wisconsin. She recorded her third career double-double in the match, garnering a career-high 23 kills and 19 digs. In a loss to No.5 Minnesota, Leath registered 13 kills with a .370 hitting percentage. The Tar Heel finished the weekend averaging four kills per set with a .313 hitting percentage and was named to the all-tournament team.
Comby helped her team sweep the competition at the Georgia Challenge highlighted by the Yellow Jackets’ 3-0 win over previously undefeated Georgia. In that match, she recorded eight kills, four digs and .400 hitting percentage. Against Kennesaw State the freshman had a season-high 12 kills and .400 hitting percentage, and tallied a .333 hitting percentage against Georgia State. Overall, Comby averaged 2.75 kills per set and a .474 hitting percentage which earned her a spot on the all-tournament team.
