Marquette’s Allie Barber continues to rack up the weekly honors by being named the AVCA Player of the Week. In addition to this weekly honor, Barber picked up her fifth Big East Offensive Player of the Week nod.
Barber becomes just the third underclassman to pick up the honor this season, following Florida’s Rachael Kramer and last week’s UC Santa Barbara’s Lindsey Ruddins – all sophomores.
On the week, Barber posted 5.12 kills per set on a .337 hitting percentage while adding in another 1.38 digs, 1.00 digs and 6.31 points per set to help Marquette to an unbeaten weekend. The team started their week with a sweep over St. John’s in which Barber slammed down 11 kills and four aces. Against Seton Hall, Barber posted a career-best 30 kills on a .352 hitting clip along with eight digs and five blocks in the team’s five-set win. In total, Barber put down 41 kills on the weekend, bringing her season kills total to 433, leading the Big East.
The last Marquette player to garner the honor was Autumn Bailey – who is now at Michigan State – on November 18, 2014.
