NCAA Division III Tournament Field Released

Tournament Information

The brackets have been officially announced for the NCAA Division III Volleyball tournament.

43 conferences were automatically awarded qualifications for the 2016 championship. In Pool B, one institution was selected, which includes independent institutions and institutions from conferences that do no meet the automatic qualification criteria. The final 20 teams that round out the 64 team tournament, make up Pool C. These institutions are from automatic-qualifying conferences, but the teams were not conference champions.

Top Four Teams

The top four teams of the tournament, and in the AVCA coaches poll are:

  1. Cal Luthern (25-4)
  2. Calvin (27-1)
  3. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (23-3)
  4. Texas-Dallas (30-2)

Each of these four teams earned a number one rank in the tournament. Cal Lutheran is looking to defend their championship title. Last season Cal Lutheran defeated Wittenburg to win their first NCAA championship in school history.

Regional Playing Sites

The women’s volleyball committee also announced the eight regional sites:

  • Brockport – Brockport, New York
  • Calvin – Grand Rapids, Michigan
  • Mary Washington – Fredericksburg, Virginia
  • Northwestern-St. Paul – St. Paul, Minnesota
  • Stevens – Hoboken, New Jersey
  • Texas-Dallas – Dallas, Texas
  • Tufts – Medford, Massachusetts
  • Wisconsin-Whitewater – Whitewater, Wisconsin

Regional competition for the tournament will take place Friday-Sunday, November 11-13 at all sites except Calvin, Northwestern-St. Paul and Wisconsin-Whitewater, where competition will be Thursday-Saturday, November 10-12.
