4th-ranked Penn State continued its upward trajectory with a sweep of Rutgers at home on Wednesday night. The Nittany Lions secured their 7th-straight victory with a .284 attack percentage and 7 service aces, while holding the Scarlet Knights to a .140 attack percentage.
In the opening set, Penn State broke up a string of 7 tie scores with a 9-2 stretch to pull ahead of Rutgers 16-9. The Nittany Lions never let up from there, recording the 25-14 win.
The second set was also close early, but once again the Nittany Lions used a strong 7-1 push to gain an advantage 20-14. To earn the win 25-18, Penn State tallied 4 of the final 5 points.
Rutgers came out swinging early with a 4-0 run in the third set, however, the potent Penn State offense could not be silenced. The Nittany Lions went on an 8-2 scoring drive to take a 12-9 lead. The Scarlet Knights fought back to knot the score 24-all, before Penn State could key the sweep with a 26-24 on an attack error and Jonni Parker kill.

Nia Reed and Parker led the Penn State volleyball offense with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Bryanna Weiskircher distributed 33 assists and a career-high 6 kills, and Kendall White logged 11 digs. With her performance, White moves to 9th on Penn State’s career digs list with 1,252.
Sahbria McLetchie registered 9 kills and added 8 digs for Rutgers, while Inna Balyko posted 28 assists. Beka Kojadinovic recorded 11 digs and 7 kills.
Penn State advances to second in Big Ten Conference standings with a 7-2 mark, behind Minnesota which is undefeated in league play at 8-0. Following the loss, the Scarlet Knights fall to 6-16 on the year and 0-9 in Big Ten play.
