Day Three of the South American Men’s Volleyball Championship determined which teams were split into the Winner’s Bracket and the Loser’s Bracket. Before the day had started, Brazil, Argentina and Chile had clinched their berths in the semifinals. However the final positions in pool play were still to be decided.
In Pool A, Venezuela faced Paraguay in their final match. A win would likely put Venezuela into the semifinals as Columbia would play Brazil. Venezuela swept Paraguay in three sets. Brazil needed to win 1 set against Columbia to finish first in the pool, and Columbia had to defeat Brazil to reach the semifinals. Alas for Columbia, Brazil also swept in three sets. Brazil (1st) and Venezuela (2nd) in Pool A, while Columbia and Paraguay go to the Loser’s Bracket.
As for Pool B, the winner of Argentina-Chile would face Venezuela, while the loser who have Brazil. Argentina won the first set, but Chile surprised in the 2nd to even the match. Argentina took the third handily 25-15. Argentina had a 6 point lead against Chile, but the Chileans fought back to within 1 point at 23-22. But the Argentine men took the next two points to win the match 3-1. Uruguay and Peru went five sets, with Uruguay winning three sets to two.
