In the latest Pac-12 volleyball weekly awards, three players from L.A. schools garnered honors. A pair were from USC in Brittany Abercrombie and Victoria Garrick while Mac May of UCLA rounded out the trio.
Carlsbad, California native and senior Brittany Abercrombie took home the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week award behind four kills per set over the week while hitting .373. That was compiled with back-to-back 18 kill matches as she compiles her first ever Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Joining Abercrombie from USC was Victoria Garrick as the league’s Defensive Player of the Week. While Abercrombie put balls into the court, Garrick kept them alive with 4.73 digs per set and even put together the first double-double by a Trojans’ libero since 2012 with an 18 dig-10 assist match.
The two Trojans were able to win the award after a 2-0 week, including a win on the road against then #15 UCLA.
Although the Bruins lost that one, they still earned an award with Mac May, the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week. The honor is the second that May has gotten so far this season after she totaled 2.78 kills per set while hitting .314. They did fall to USC, but May was pivotal with 12 kills, four digs and two blocks in a top-10 victory over Oregon.
