Class of 2020 recruit Madison Morey has committed to the University of Virginia women’s indoor volleyball program. A 5’8″ defensive specialist/libero, Morey will join the Cavaliers in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) for the fall of 2020 season.
A sophomore at Walton High School in Marietta, Georgia, Morey is in her second year of varsity with the program. In her two years combined, she has been a part of a combined 79-7 record, including 40-1 this past season and back-to-back state championships. In fact, in 2017 MaxPreps ranked them as the seventh best team in the entire country.
Individually, according to her MaxPreps profile, Morey netted 217 digs (2.2 per set), 41 aces (0.4 per set) and 16 assists (0.2 per set) in her sophomore season. She logged slightly lower but similar numbers as a freshman.
Morey also plays with A5 Volleyball Club and the 16-1 Team. Her profile with the club can be seen here. Video of her play from last year can be seen below via YouTube:
It’s the first class of 2020 commit for Virginia recorded in the VolleyMob Recruiting Database, although they do have a pledge from 2019 setter Maddie Boylston. The Cavaliers are coming off of a 7-24 season in which they went 3-17 playing in the ACC. They have two defensive specialists/liberos on their 2018 spring roster – one which will graduate headed into 2020 and another who would be a senior set to join Morey.
