#25 Baylor Looks to Down (RV) Washington State; August 31 Preview

  0 Derek Johnson | August 31st, 2017 | Big 12, College - Women's Indoor, Division I Mid-Major, Pac 12, SEC, WCC

Every day at VolleyMob we will preview several of the most notable and interesting matches in NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball. We will offer an inside look at some of those top matchups each day as we carry along through the 2017 season.

Week two ramps up as we approach the weekend with a teaser on Thursday. Several ranked or receiving vote teams resume action today with a couple of mid-majors taking part in the action as well. None stand out above Baylor and Washington State, who could be fighting for a spot in the top 25.

THE BIG MATCH:

#25 Baylor at RV(#26) Washington State – 11 pm ET (Pac-12 Live Stream)

Two teams fighting for top 25 recognition go at it in Pulman with the winner likely staying/moving into the week three VolleyMob poll (assuming they take care of business beyond that).

This should be an interesting match-up as Baylor All-American Katie Staiger meets the dynamic blocking defense of Washington State.

Beyond that, this one serves as a rematch from last season, when Baylor won in five sets over Washington State in Waco, Texas.

OTHER NOTABLE MATCHES:

#13 BYU at Boise State – 9:30 pm ET

While BYU deservedly gets much of the mid-major attention, Boise State has been a top-level program as well. The Broncos didn’t quite make the Sweet 16 like BYU, but did make the second round before falling to eventual National Champion Stanford in 2016 as they won 26 matches. Now the two sides meet for a resume building win, as Boise State looks to get revenge after they fell in three sets to BYU early last season.

UT Rio Grande Valley at #10 Oregon – 10 pm ET (Pac-12 Live Stream)

After upsetting Nebraska, #10 Oregon was unable to defeat Texas in week one, but still impressed as a potential Pac-12 dark horse. They kick off their home schedule and the Oregon Classic with a match against a 2016 NCAA Tournament team in UT Rio Grande Valley. UTRGV is just 1-2, but they’ve been tested as both losses came to ranked teams in Ohio State and BYU.

BEST OF THE REST:

Arkansas at Kansas State – 8 pm ET (ESPN3)

#19 Utah vs. South Dakota – 10:45 pm ET
