Louisiana Tech is bringing on a junior college transfer to compete for time as a defensive specialist in Morgan Currie from Panola Junior College. Currie will be a junior in 2017 after two years at her previous stint and therefore have two years left of play.
A 5’6″ defensive specialist/libero, Currie spent her previous two seasons at Panola Junior College. As a freshman she was first-team all-conference after posting 4.47 digs per set. Then, as a sophomore she was second-team all-conference with 4.22 digs per set on a team that made the NJCAA postseason tournament and finished ranked seventh in the nation.
Originally from Brian, Texas, Currie attended Rouse High School in her prep career. She totaled 1,451 digs (5.3 per set) in three years of varsity volleyball and was named the 6A-Defensive Player of the Year as a senior when she led Rouse to the playoffs for the first time in school history.
Currie is one of three defensive specialists/liberos on the Louisiana Tech roster for 2017 with four if you include outside hitter/libero Marta Monne. Jacie McClure led the team in digs in 2016 and is back for her senior season, while Currie joins freshman Alyssa Zucco as newcomers at the position.
Louisiana Tech finished 13-17 in 2016 with a 4-10 conference record. It was the fifth straight season where the win total rose for Louisiana Tech, as they will look to top it again in 2017.
