Creighton’s Lydia Dimke Earns Big East Offensive Player Of The Week

BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Lydia Dimke, Creighton, Sr., Setter (Ham Lake, Minn.)

Facing three top teams in Omaha for the Bluejay Invitational last weekend, senior setter Lydia Dimke was named the Invitational’s MVP after a well-rounded performance based on a .520 hitting percentage, 9.67 assists, 2.44 digs, 1.56 kills, 1.00 blocks and 0.78 service aces per set. In Creighton’s sweep over then-No. 13 Kentucky, Dimke had 31 assists, three aces, seven digs and two blocks. Dimke had six kills on seven swings for a .857 attack percentage. Despite a loss to then-No. 18 USC, Dimke finished with 27 assists, three aces, four kills and five digs.  Dimke closed out the weekend with 29 assists and 10 digs for her first double-double of the year, adding four aces, a league match high for the week in a sweep of Northern Iowa.  It was also a career-high for the senior.

BIG EAST Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week
Martha Konovodoff, Marquette, Fr., DS (Sugar Grove, Ill.) 

The Marquette freshman defensive specialist led the league in digs per set this week with 5.25 as Martha Konovodoff had 12 digs in a three-set sweep over Miami Ohio, 24 in a five-set loss to Wichita State and 27 in a four-match win over IUPUI. Her 27 digs against IUPUI was a league match high for the week in all four-set matches played. Her 24 digs against the Shockers, who were receiving votes in last week’s poll, were the third-most in match highs this week. In three matches for Marquette, Konovodoff had just one reception error. In addition to her defensive specialties, the freshman averaged 0.42 assists and 0.25 points per set via three service aces.

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Whitney Beck, Butler, RS-Jr., OH (Albion, Ill.)
Named to the 2017 Michigan Invite All-Tournament team as the Bulldogs finished with a 2-1 record and Beck tallied three double-doubles. Beck averaged 4.35 points, 3,80 kills and 3.50 digs per set. In a loss at then-No. 19 Michigan, Beck had 12 kills and 10 digs. For the week, Beck hit .232.

Brittany Maxwell, DePaul, Jr., RS (Macomb, Mich.)
Led the league last week with 5.44 points and 4.75 kills per set as DePaul went 2-0 against Idaho and Illinois-Chicago. Maxwell also added 2.12 digs per set and hit .319.
Symone Speech, Georgetown, Jr., MB (Oak Park, Ill.)
Averaged 4.50 points, 3.33 kills and a league-best 1.89 blocks per set in a 3-0 week for the Hoyas in the Service Academy Challenge. Speech had a league match high of 10 blocks (3, 7) in a sweep over Army-West Point.

Allison Impellizeri, Providence, Jr., MB (Seaford, N.Y.)
The MVP of the Hatter Classic, Impellizeri helped Providence to another 3-0 weekend as she averaged 3.90 points, 3.0 kills per set on .510 hitting. Impellizeri hit .615 against ECU in the tournament opener for the Friars.

Abby Thelen, Seton Hall, Jr., OH (Mitchell, Ky.)
Named to the Seton Hall Classic All-Tournament team, Thelen averaged 4.94 points, 4.33 kills and 3.22 digs per set with a .314 attack percentage in wins over Buffalo (3-2) and Rutgers (3-1). On Friday against Buffalo, Thelen erupted for a career-best 24 kills and 21 digs with an impressive .345 attack percentage. It was the first time in 13 years a SHU player reached the 20-kill, 20-dig plateau.
