With Hurricane Irma looming off the eastern coast of the United States, and still much uncertainty in its projected path, Coastal Carolina has cancelled the Coastal Carolina Classic.
The tournament, originally scheduled for this weekend, was to include the VolleyMob #24-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the FIU Panthers, and the host Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.
But with Irma due to become one of the largest and most powerful hurricanes to ever make landfall on the United States, the two visiting teams have changed their plans. Now, instead, the Buckeyes and Irish will compete twice this weekend in a home-and-home series on September 8th and 10th.
Updated Schedule:
- Friday, September 7th – 7PM Eastern – Ohio State vs. Notre Dame (Columbus, Ohio)
- Sunday, September 9th – 1PM Eastern – Ohio State vs. Notre Dame (South Bend, Indiana)
Admission for both matches are free, but cash donations will be collected at the door to give to the Red Cross hurricane relief fund.
Ohio State enters the matches with a 4-2 record so far this season, while Notre Dame is a perfect 6-0. A win for either team this weekend would be that team’s best win of the season so far.
Columbus and South Bend are only 4 hours apart by road.
Other Irma-related disruptions include Miami cancelling its weekend trip to Philadelphia, and Florida reducing the Active Ankle Challenge to just 1 game, against Michigan State.
