For the second straight week a University at Buffalo volleyball player has earned Mid-American Conference MAC East Offensive Player of the Week honors as senior Cassie Shado picked up the recognition on Monday evening, the conference office announced. Shado joins sophomore Polina Prokudina, who has already won the award twice.
Shado had her best weekend since coming back from an early season injury as she he hit .480 leading the Bulls to a 2-0 start in MAC play for the first time since 2014. Shado began her weekend with 13 kills and just two errors as she hit .478 in a 3-1 victory over Ohio, the first win for the Bulls over the Bobcats since 2010. She also added five blocks in the match, including three solos. She kept up her strong offensive play on Saturday evening in a 3-0 sweep of Kent State as she had a team-high 15 kills and just two errors, hitting .481. Shado added two blocks in the victory.
Shado has now played in five matches this season after missing the first eight, and she is hitting .440 on the year. Last season, Shado was an All-MAC First Team selection as she hit .400 for the year, just the second player in school history to achieve that mark. She was named preseason All-MAC prior to her senior season.
Shado and the Bulls look to improve to 3-0 in MAC play for the first time since joining the conference when they host Akron on Thursday night at Alumni Arena. The match will begin at 7pm and it is Superhero Night. Admission is free to the match and it will also be airing live on ESPN3.
