Fairfield University Volleyball ran its winning streak to 15 consecutive matches and remained unbeaten in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) with a 3-0 win this afternoon at Saint Peter’s. Manuela Nicolini and Megan Theiller each registered a double-double as the Stags took the match by set scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-17.
With the win, Fairfield improves to 19-6 overall and 14-0 in the MAAC. The Stags, who have already clinched a first round bye in the upcoming MAAC Championship, can claim at least a share of their 17th MAAC regular season title with a win tomorrow at Rider. The Stags can also lock up a piece of the regular season crown on Sunday if Niagara loses at Marist. Fairfield would earn the outright regular season title with a win and a Niagara loss.
In today’s match, Nicolini ran the Stags’ attack to a .217 clip. She handed out 36 assists in addition to three kills of her own. Theiller and Skyler Day each had 13 kills to pace the Fairfield offense from the outside. In the middle, Kaylie Butts and Luci Albertson each contributed four kills. Sonja Radulovic and Mayda Garcia each had three, and Kaitlyn Fisher set home two finishers to round out the attack.
Defensively, Theiller and Nicolini shared the team high with 14 digs apiece to cap their respective double-doubles. Taylor Rudeen added 13 digs from the libero spot, and Day and Radulovic each finished with eight.
Alexus Sharp of Saint Peter’s led all players with 15 kills. Imani Spicer doled out 25 assists while engineering the Peacocks’ attack to a .156 hitting percentage. The Saint Peter’s defense was led by 17 digs from libero Karla Seda and two blocks apiece for Sharp and Caitlinn Williams.
Sunday’s action at Rider – the final road match on the Stags’ MAAC slate – begins at noon. Action returns to George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall next Wednesday, Nov. 8 for a 7 p.m. visit from Siena. The Stags will then cap the regular season at home with weekend contests against Niagara and Canisius. All three matches are set to broadcast live on the Stags Sports Network.
