What Does It Take To Form A Successful Beach Team?

There are many things that go into making a successful beach volleyball pairing, with things such as chemistry and team-spirit.

“People have told us that we’re fun to watch and stuff but I think a big part of that is because we genuinely love playing together. I love sharing the court with her,” said Canadian Sarah Pavan about partner Melissa Humana-Paredes.

It is about having that bond on the court and finding what each other needs in order to be successful as a team and as an individual. If you are struggling yourself or not bringing all that you can to the court, you are not helping your partner out. To build a strong bond with your partner in beach is crucial to the success of the pairing. Being close with one another and having some general trust and respect can go a long way in forming a great team.

“As much as we are playing for ourselves, we are also playing for our partner. That makes us stronger and keeps the team together,” said Humana-Paredes.

The ultimate goal for these players is to be at the Olympics, giving each team four years to find a new partner if needed or to build up an even stronger bond with their current partnership. Germany’s Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst won the most recent beach Olympic title in Rio and are continuing their partnership to repeat as champions.
