The opening round of the fourth round in the 2018 Women’s Champions League has concluded with some expected outcomes along with some surprises. None of the matches in the opening round went to five sets, with a number of sweeps taking place while others needed four sets to finish off their matches.

The biggest surprise in the round was that CSM Volei Alba Blaj took down powerhouse Volero Zurich in four sets. Leading the upset was Ana Yilian Cleger Abel with 26 points with 21 being kills. Also scoring big in the match was Adina Salaoru with 21 points.

Chemik Police made easy work out of Vizura Ruma as they downed them in straight sets. They were led by Katarzyna Gajgal-Aniol with 13 points.

In an all-Italian match-up, Imoco Volley Conegliano was able to take down Igor Gorgonzola Novara in four-sets behind 18 points from Samanta Fabris. The match really was no challenge for Imoco as they kept their opponent under 20 points in all three sets that they won.

VakifBank Istanbul took down cross-town foe Galatasaray SK Istanbul in a four-set showdown. The two Turkish powerhouses battled for the win, with a strong VakifBank squad highlighted by a 25 point performance from Chinese volleyball prodigy, Zhu Ting, led VakifBank to victory.
