Class of 2018 setter Blake Crisp has committed to UC San Diego. A current senior in high school, Crisp will graduate in the spring, join the Tritons in the fall of 2018 and be a freshman for the 2019 season.
Standing at 6’3″, Crisp attends Westlake High School in California. He’s been a starter for the school since his freshman season, with the last two years providing All-League First-Team honors.
Additionally on the club side of things, Crisp plays with SMBC and the A1 Red Team. That goes along with his other volleyball ventures outside of high school play such as on the beach in the California Beach Volleyball Association Tour.
“Blake is an athletic setter with great touch on the ball and a high volleyball IQ,” UC San Diego head coach Kevin Ring said in the team’s release of the signing. “He is accomplished both indoors and on the beach. His demeanor on and off the court, as well as his competitive drive, will prove to be great additions to our program as we play in the Big West Conference and transition to Division I.”
UCSD is currently 2-0 in the early 2018 Men’s season as they are looking to improve on their 7-20 season from 2017. They have two true setters on their roster this year with two others who can play the position. Of that group of four, two are set to graduate at the end of this season, giving Crisp a chance to impact the roster early.
