At an NCAA Convention, the Division II brass has passed a proposal to start up the Women’s Volleyball season a week early in years when a fall championship festival occurs. The rule will come into effect right away.
A fall championship festival is only utilized in Division II and is an event that plays host to multiple national championships at one site over the course of several days. For instance, think of an Olympics style event with a host of sports going on.
This past season, the Division II Women’s Volleyball year began on Tuesday August, 29 – as the season kicks off in the last week of August. For a lot of schools, this is their first or second week of classes, so essentially it would just be bumped up to August 22 this year if applicable.
The 2018-2019 season is listed as a year with a Fall Championship Festival for NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball according to the NCAA, meaning the rule will have an impact right away.
