After being displaced from their home court for over a year, the North Carolina State volleyball team opened their season at the newly renovated Reynolds Coliseum.
The Wolfpack went 1-1 one the first day of play in the Wolfpack Invitational, sweeping Delaware 25-21, 25-18, 25-15, while dropping the second match to High Point in four sets 21-25, 25-19, 23-25, 22-25.
These matches are the first to take place in Reynolds Coliseum after work was started in March 2015. The project included ripping out over 2,800 seats and shifting the arena bowl to one end of the building. It makes room for a sports walk of fame, which runs around Reynold from the grand hall and through the concourses.
The entrance showcases athletes who moved on to play professionally or in the Olympics. Interactive touchscreens were added to allow visitors to view the Wolfpack’s sports history.
The project also added a video control room that will produce broadcasts of Wolfpack sporting events once the Atlantic Coast Conference channel and eventually the ACC Network when it launches in 2019.
All sports that were displaced, women’s basketball, volleyball, gymnastics and wrestling, are able to move back into the facility and resume their normal schedules.
The official reopening of Reynolds Coliseum is set for Sept. 16, where the latest inductions to the walk of fame will be announced.
The Wolfpack will conclude play in the Wolfpack Invitational when they play SMU Saturday night at 7pm.
