Former Hofstra right side Emma Price is leaving the program via transfer for DePaul in the fall of 2018. A sophomore-to-be this upcoming season, Price will have three years left of play and is immediately eligible.
While she was specifically an opposite at Hofstra, it sounds as if she could not only be used in that position but also an outside hitter in 2018.
“What makes Emma so special as a player is her ability to attack and block from either pin position on the court in addition to her ability to hit quick sets and high balls,” DePaul head coach Marie Zidek said in the team’s release. “She is a true hybrid that expands what we are able to do offensively.”
Standing at 6’2″, Price came to Hofstra after prepping at Pacific Ridge High School in Encinitas, California. She made an immediate impact as a true freshman with the Pride, appearing in 24 matches and 78 sets and logging 181 kills (2.32 per set) on a .277 hitting percentage, 42 blocks (0.54 per set) and 23 digs (0.29 per set).
“What makes her so special as a person is that she brings an elite competitive mentality to practices and games,” Zidek added. “She has an unyielding passion for the sport and the standard to which she holds her performance will be immediately infectious as we embark towards our goals this season.”
The loss leaves Hofstra, who went 18-14 (9-7 CAA) in 2017, without any returning right sides for 2018. Meanwhile for DePaul, it gives them another right side to join senior-to-be Brittany Maxwell in the fall. DePaul is coming off of an 8-22 season in which they went 2-16 in the Big East.
