Class of 2019 middle blocker Ethan Hill has committed to the UCLA Men’s Volleyball program. Hill is set to join the Bruins for the 2019-2020 school year, with his inaugural season coming in the winter of 2020.
Back at the start of June, Hill was named to the Boys’ Youth National Team as one of 12 members. That team, that was coached by UCLA assistant Brad Keller, won silver at the NORCECA U19 Championship in Costa Rica. That qualified the team for the 2019 FIVB World Championship.
In the opener against Guatemala, Hill logged a team-high eight kills. He also started every match, including in the championship against Cuba.
Standing at 6’7″, Hill is a junior at St. Margaret’s Episcopal. Last season as a sophomore he helped the team to a 29-5 record and an appearance in the 2018 CIF Southern Section Boys Division 3 Final Four.
On the club side of things, he plays with Balboa Bay. Highlights of Hill’s play at the 16s Boys Invitational can be seen below via YouTube:
His NCSA Recruiting Profile notes that he owns a 26″ block jump, a 35.5″ approach jump and an 8’3″ standing reach.
Hill becomes the sixth commit for UCLA as part of the class of 2019. Others who will be freshmen on the 2020 roster are OH/RS Merrick McHenry, OH Alex Knight, RS Kyle Vom Steeg, DS/L Cole Power and Marcus Partain. Hill already got some play with Knight, who is also on the Boys’ Youth National Team with him.
UCLA was the National Runner-Up in 2018 and went 26-8 overall. They are also ranked fourth in the Way-Too-Early VolleyMob Top 20 Power Rankings.
